Why we chose this name
The name Acies was chosen in 1997, several years before the company was founded. It reflects a lifelong appreciation for the Latin language, together with the values of discipline, precision and clarity.
The inspiration also comes from a family tradition connected with the Italian Military Academy of Modena, whose historic motto, Una Acies, has long represented unity, purpose and excellence.
Over time, the broader meanings of the Latin word—battle line, sharp edge, keen eyesight and mental acuity—have naturally come to represent the way we approach engineering, scientific research and technological innovation.
The founder's engineering experience includes the design, construction, and commissioning of systems for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. That experience continues to shape the engineering culture of Acies Instruments.
